# Familiarization with CRO and Function Generator

OBJECTIVE: – To familiarize with CRO and Function generator.

THEORY: –

CRO: – The full name of CRO cathode ray oscilloscope. It is an instrument based on the cathode ray tube that provides a visual image of electrical signals. The horizontal is usually provided by an internal time base, which cause the beam to sweep across the screen at a specified rate. The signal to be investigated is fed to the vertical deflection plates after amplification. Thus the beam traces a growth of the signal amplitude against time.

FUNTION GENERATOR: – A function generator is usually a piece of electronic test equipment used to generate different types of electronic waveforms over a wide range of frequencies. Some of the most common waveforms produced by the function generator are sine, square, triangular and      shapes. These waveforms can be either repetitive or signal shot which requires an internal or external trigger source. Function generator are used in the development, test and repair of electronic equipment. For example, they may be used as a signal source to test amplifiers or to introduce an error signal into a control loop.

SL.NO SIGNAL TYPE AMPLITUDE TIME PERIOD(mS) FREQUENCY(Hz) SHAPE 1 Sinusoidal wave 2 Triangular wave 3 Square wave

CONCLUSION: – CRO and function generator are useful electronic devices by which we can measure the amplitude, time period and frequency a signal. Function generator generates diff types of signals and from the visual screen of CRO, we can easily measure amplitude, time period and also the frequency of the signal generated by function generator.
